Phnom Penh to Kampong Cham

A tuk tuk driver picks me up from my accommodation at 6.45 am and takes me to a place where I am catching the bus.

My bus ticket, including this tuk tuk transport cost me $10 USD which is good value as the tuk tuk ride itself was about 45 minutes … though it was peak time.

I get picked up by minivan and not by bus for my trip to Kampong Cham. I do meet a nice and well travelled Australian lady on the trip … just by coincidence she is staying at my same homestay … Sunrise Villa.

It was a bit of a crazy trip to Kampong Cham. More passengers than seats, no seatbelts, three babies on mothers laps and a driver who is constantly on his phone.

It was good to chat with Marlene during this trip and discus travel stories.

The trip seems to take so long but finally we are there. Marlene and I share a tuk tuk to our accommodation.

Sunrise Villa is a Homestay about 3km out of town ... Marlene seems to know where we are going so I stop worrying.

Sunrise Villa costs $10 Aud per night, including breakfast, with private ensuite bathroom but only a fan.

As I have overspent on accommodation in Kampot and Phnom Penh I am trying to get my budget back on track.

My room is quite large and the only real problem is that the wifi is poor in the room though good elsewhere in the building.

This place has a “fabulous” rating of 8.7 on booking.com so it is somewhat of a hidden gem. They have 6 accommodation rooms that were mostly full during my 5 night stay.

The offer other meals of rice and noodles with vegetables, with or without meat, for $2 and $2.50 per day so this is an overall value for money stay.

I have a late lunch at the Homestay and it fills me up for the rest of the day. Rice noodles with vegetables and fried eggs. It is very good.

Marlene, the Australian lady, has organised for our Homestay father, who is also a tuk tuk driver, to take us on a tour tomorrow.
