Making Rice Paper

This is a family business and the grandmother has been making rice paper for 30 years. They do a great job but it would do my head in doing the same thing every day.

This rice paper has sesame seeds in it and is evidently better for bbq when the aroma of the seeds is released. I wished I could have tried cooking with some. They sell the rice paper for 3000 vnd per sheet 0.19 Aud.

Vietnamese Coffee stop, Vietnam
Vietnamese Coffee stop

We stopped for vietnamese coffee and relaxed in hammocks for a while. This is my first time having Vietnamese coffee. I usually drink my coffee black and without sugar so I have been reluctant to try this coffee that is made with condensed milk. Poured over ice it was a nice drink … I enjoyed it.

Pho Bo for lunch, Vietnam
Pho Bo for lunch

After a short drive further on we stopped for lunch. We had Pho Bo (Beef Pho) ... it was very tasty. Lunch for 2 was 50000 Vnd … a little more than $3 Aud. Very good value and more food than I could eat. This also included water.

Climbing into the mountains

After lunch we started climbing up into the mountains and stopped to take photos along the way.

The weather got cooler as we drove up into the mountains … it was lovely.

Minority Village in the mountains

We stopped and took photos in a minority village in the mountains. These are the K‘Ho people and the village is Gia Bac.

There were many coffee plantations around the village and lots of places where coffee was drying.

Another nice mountain view as we climb higher into the mountains.

Deshelling the dried coffee beans

When we got to Di Linh we came across a mobile deshelling plant for coffee. I did wonder what happened to all the coffee that people had drying on their front lawns. I am thinking that this guy goes around and processes the coffee for them.

We stopped by a green tea plantation up in the hill country not far from Di Linh.

Garden Homestay, Di Linh, Vietnam
Cute cottages at Garden Homestay

We stayed at Garden Homestay and the little cottages were very cute. There were some cyclists staying here from Slovenia (I really do not know how they managed those hills on pushbike) plus some other easy riders with their tourists.

Mr Qua made a fire in the fire pit. He also got me some rice wine so that I could relax by the fire … it was very strong and I found that it tasted better with Diet Coke … everything tastes better with Diet Coke 🤪

While I showered Mr Qua organised dinner … he even cooked some baby eggplants on the fire, he found them in a garden somewhere.

So we sat down to this yummy dinner … the barbecue pork and chicken was very good and the baby eggplants were so sweet.

I was totally spoiled with Mr Qua organising everything and cleaning up too 😀

Showing a photo of my private bathroom in my little cottage. I was expecting to have an outside shared bathroom up here in the mountains but everything was very comfortable. I would show more photos of the room but I have messed it up … I should have taken photos when I first got here.

Tomorrow we go from Di Linh to Da Lat. Mr Qua said that we have a long day with many stops along the way. I hope my bum does not get too sore.
