Kampot - The Square Kampot Hotel

I am behind with my writing but I am going to jump forward to today and then go back and finish off my Vietnam Easy Rider Trip.

For my final breakfast at Karma Traders I go up to their rooftop bar.

I order the same as yesterday but it must be a different chef as it is not nearly as good. Over cooked eggs and soggy toast from poaching water.

I checked out of the Karma Traders Resort today after 2 nights and have come to The Square Kampot Hotel. I am here for 3 nights before going to Phnom Penh. At $40 Aud per night this is outside of my budget but it does include breakfast. I was feeling that I needed a bit of luxury. I am feeling outside of my comfort zone here in Cambodia after being in Vietnam for nearly 4 weeks.

My room and balcony are lovely and I have not seen any mosquitoes yet.

I notice a difference already. On arriving in a tuk tuk a doorman comes and gets my luggage and takes it inside. When inside they offer me a seat on a couch, a cold drink and turn on a fan for me.

My room is not ready as it is only 11.30 am. I went upstairs to the bar and looked at the tour brochure they have given me.

I have booked 2 tours for the next 2 days and then a bus to Phnom Penh after I check out. Reception has arranged all this for me and I could pay by card so did not have to worry about getting cash.

My room is now ready and my luggage has already been taken there … a young man escorts me to my room … nice service. They rushed getting my room ready and I got into it at 12.30 pm.

The quality of service in Cambodia is amazing.

Before I checked out of the Karma Traders this morning I spent some time booking the remainder of my accommodation in Cambodia so I feel pleased that I have done that. This also included deciding on where to go between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. I had changed my mind many times and needed to make a decision.

After a rest in my nice room I go for a walk to find lunch. I come across this place that has noodles and you can choose from a spicy scale of between 1 and 7. I chose 4 which was probably on my upper end of spicyness. The food was ok … I would not go back again.

Did you know that you can not flush toilet paper in Asia and many places do not offer it. This sign says it all. You do need the right pressure though … too little and you can not do the job … too much and you blow your bits off.

So I go for a walk looking for Diet Coke. I can see it in a delivery truck but no one seems to be selling it.

I finally find some for sale at Durian Square.

As I walk in and out of my hotel the receptionists stand and bow … it’s like wow. Not that I expect anyone to bow to me but I can not let it go unnoticed.
