Day 6 Mui Ne - Easy Rider Trip - KeGa Lighthouse via Bikini Beach

Today I turned 61 years old and am currently travelling solo in vietnam.

The breakfasts are good at the guesthouse and included in the price. Breakfast always includes fresh fruit juice, fresh fruit and there is a choice of about 10 difference options for the meal.
I had only intended to go shopping today, in search of diet coke and finding an ATM to get some cash but Mr Qua suggested a trip to a lighthouse and hey it’s my birthday … why not do something fun 🤣
I got my Diet Coke, for my birthday vodkas and I found an ATM with less fees than I was charged a few days ago. When I withdrew cash when I got here I was charged 88000 vnd per 2000000 at Bidv. Today I paid 55000 vnd per 2000000 at Vietn bank Atm.

There is so much construction going on in this area including roading, resorts and beach clubs.

These boats are called thung chai or thuyen thung in vietnamese. These boats came about during the French colonial era which was from the 1880’s to the 1940’s. The French imposed a tax on fishing boats which threatened the livelihood of many coastal living Vietnamese. They made these large baskets, that they could also use for fishing, to get around paying the tax. They have become a Vietnamese icon.

KeGa lighthouse is on an island and surrounded by beautiful rocks.

Mr Qua and I explored an abandoned resort … such a mess and a shame that they do not clean up the old mess before they start building all these new flash resorts.

We took a break to look at dragonfruit plants.

This birthday lunch was so yummy. I was told that the rice is cooked in the pot of duck water. Cost 80000 vnd, just under $5 Aud for 2 of us and that included ice tea. This is probably the tastiest meal I have had in Vietnam so far.

We then went to Phi Long where disabled people are employed making sand art pictures. They were doing amazing work … so clever. It was nice to see this very caring community.

In the courtyard they had this tree with huge fruit ... I was told that the fruit are not edible.

We then went to Cham Towers. 1000 year old heavily engraved towers for worshipping Shiva. Shiva has a prominent role in Hinduism.

There are also towers for worshipping Linga and Yoni. Mr Qua explained this to me briefly and I have tried reading about it but feel that whatever I say will not be correct or conclusive enough. This represents the male and female reproductive organs which to me seems to be like an extension of Shiva. I am going to leave it at that for now and read up about it, to gain more knowledge.

I got home at 4pm after a busy day … I just relaxed for the evening.
Tomorrow I start my 5 day easyrider tour. Mui Ne to Di Linh being the first day. Maps says 67km at 1hr 50m so I am assuming we will stop lots which is good because my bum gets a bit sore sitting for too long 😆
