Day 2 at Mui Ne

Lotte Mart Phan Thiet

I found my phone thanks to “find my iphone” and google translate. It was in the restaurant lost property … I must be more careful and this was certainly a lesson for me as my other phone has all my money cards in it and if that was lost I would have been without access to money. I am thinking that I had my phone in my hand and put it down to pay.

Yay I found the beach and it looks beautiful. Where I am staying at Minh Khoi Guest House is across the road from the beach and it is not until just now that I have realised that I have a glimpse of ocean, if I crane my neck a little.

I walked to a local supermarket this morning but could not find anything I wanted so I decided to get a grab car into Lotte Mart in Phan Thiet (this is sounding familiar).

Anyway Lotte Mart is good … lots of variety. My shopping bill came to 615000 vnd and this freaked me out a bit but when I did the conversion it was only $37 aud.

As I was getting a grab cab and wanted to make the trip worth while I stocked up on heavier items like water and Diet Coke.

I am really liking Mui Ne so far … it has a beachy vibe. My accommodation is $22 aud a night but has a few extras that I am enjoying. A fridge is a big one … that enabled me to buy some food to last a few days.

I bought some French sticks and butter and tomatoes … I am loving the tomatoes here. I also bought some broccoli 🥦 as the only place I have seen it is at Lotte Mart. I am trying to keep healthy. I might eat it raw, as I have been doing, but as there is a kettle in my room I might try and steam it.

The other day I bought some kewpie doll wasabi mayo that is mixed with sesame and that is a nice dipping sauce for the broccoli. Again this was from Lotte Mart. They had a few different flavours but I am happy with my choice. It is hard when the labels are not in English. Shopping can be challenging.

My balcony overlooks a courtyard where there are star fruit and mangoes growing … I like this.

I went out for another walk this evening as it was cooler and a nice breeze. I found a laundry very close and left my washing there. I dropped it off at 6pm and they said that it will be ready by 9am. 10000 vnd per kg 0.61 aud. My shopping bag full weighed 2.5 kg. I paid 3 x this amount in Ho Chi Minh City … still cheap though.

Where I am staying most of the beachfront is occupied by businesses … mostly restaurants and some resorts too. This makes it hard to get beach access. I have my own food so do not need to eat out at the moment. Some would argue that it is cheaper here to eat out than to make my own food but having been here nearly a week I have eaten out many times and it is nice to have a break from that.

I may go and sit in one of the bars tomorrow night and have a drink so that I can watch the sunset … if I can time it right.

Seafood Rrstaurant, Mui Ne - live seafood in tanks
Seafood Restaurant Mui Ne,

Many of the restaurants are seafood and have tanks filled with live seafood of varying types.

This place looks very flash but very empty too. Shortly after I took this photo there was a flurry of activity and a bus arrived. The restaurant workers stand out on the street and try to wave down the vehicles to come to their businesses … I suppose that is because there seems to be more vehicle traffic than foot traffic in this area … at the moment. So many businesses trying to grasp whatever business they can. They work hard to make a Dong (currency) here.

This was their seafood tank area. I have developed a seafood allergy in later life so I am a bit nervous to try anything. I have had some prawns and fish sauce while I have been here with no obvious reaction so I will probably try some at some stage. I have not seen any scallops yet … they may tempt me.
