Ben Tre to Can Tho - Mekong Delta - Easy Rider Trip

Before I left the hotel room I took a photograph of this artwork on the wall … just incase it is as close as I am going to get to any Saurus Crane.

We went next door from our accommodation for breakfast. Had very good food and met lovely people. This cooking and dining set up was just in their back yard.

So we get on the road again … headed to Can Tho.

We stopped by this place where they take the outer shells off the coconuts and then sort them. The best ones go to Hanoi and the others are used locally.

We sat and had tea with the boss man who seemed to be overseeing the operation. Just reflecting back on this photo … the table could probably do with a wipe.

Next we went to this place where they had preserved tunnels from the “American War”. Due to it being so wet in the Mekong Delta they could not make the tunnels underground and had to build them on top but disguise them so that they could not be visible from the helicopters above.

There is a museum there too with photos of war heros and also war memorabilia. The photo I show here is just one of many photos of heros. Same with the memoribilia … I will not bore you with everything … you need something to see for yourself … when you visit 😀 That pretty much goes for everything that I am posting … I am just giving you a taste.

Next we come across this beautiful garden so we have to stop and take photos.

Next we wait for one of our many ferry rides. It is a bit confusing for me but sometimes we go by bridge and then back by boat … Mr Qua likes to mix things up to keep it interesting … it confuses the hell outta me but I suppose that it makes it more like a magical mystery tour.

Next we go to a beautiful Pergoda. It was closed so just took photos on the outside. I tripped while taking a photo and I think my toe is broken.

We have some time so we visit Sa Dec and in particular a beautiful garden village there.

Just one more ferry ride and one more temple before we get to go to our hotel.
I have named this ferry ride the plastic plate express. I have to have my own fun along the way because no one is talking to me in English … It seems weird to not be in conversations.

There were some beautiful ladies in traditional dress at the temple and they allowed me to take their photo. They had their own photographer but they did not mind posing for me.
Ok so we get to the hotel already tired from a big day and find that I am on the 7th floor and there is no lift.
Anyway a nice young man helped me with my bag. Just getting myself up there was hard work.
Anyway I go for a walk to look for vodka and Diet Coke and Mr Qua is talking to the lady in reception. I thought that he was just chatting but no he was discussing tour options for tonight on a dinner cruise and tomorrow morning for a sunrise floating market boat trip.
So just as I thought I could relax I now have 30 minutes to shower and get ready to go out.
I am not complaining … it was so nice of him to organise this for me. Here was me thinking that I could not even manage one more trip up and down the 7 flights of stairs but the shower refreshed me and we were off out again … this time in a grab car.

The boat was amazing and pretty much full. There was a stage with ongoing entertainment as well.

The boat just went out into the harbour and spun around for the evening. There were quite a few boats doing the same thing. We were on there about 2 and a half hours which was long enough.
We called prior to going and we’re told that we could board for free and just pay for food and drinks. Some of the food looked very expensive. We ordered Egg fried rice and some oysters. The rice was nice but the oysters were beautiful … biggest oysters I have ever seen and with a taste comparable to New Zealand Bluff Oysters. We shared 3 beers between us. The bill came to somewhere between 500 and 600000 vnd. Most expensive meal I have had since being in Vietnam but well worth it for the cruise, silver service experience and the food quality. I checked my card when I got home to see how much it actually was and was only $35 Aud … good value really for a night out like that.

Did I mention that the oysters were yummy … they were to die for.

So after the boat it was planned that we would go walking somewhere … I am not sure if we went to the somewhere but I found a bar playing very loud music and that looked like fun. We went there and had one more beer each.

Anyway the bar had three DJ’s who had a mix of English and Vietnamese words with phycadelic sounds. The crowd was mostly very young and Mr Qua observed that there were so many staff. Some staff maybe available to pick up … anyway I had fun.
We then got a grab car back to our hotel and one last walk up the stairs … they were the kind of stairs where you need a rest half way up.
We are not getting a very early night considering that we need to be up at 4am for our next activity.
